Frida is a sitter style art doll with an airdry clay face, weighted base and is suitable for all skill levels of sewing and sculpting. I will walk you through the process of sculpting and fully painting the doll. You will also spend some time learning how to creatively alter fabric and then make this into the clothing for the doll. There is the lesson on creating a wig for Frida, making the flower crown, and finally, making a little airdry clay bird to sit on her arm.
Daily lesson plan
Day 1: sewing, weighting, stuffing, and attaching the sewn body parts plus sculpting the head.
Day2: sculpting the shoulder plate, neck and attaching. Underpainting the stuffed body. Painting the face and body and shoes
Day 3: printing the fabric, making the flowers, and sewing and attaching the clothing.
Day 4: Making the wig, crown of flowers, sculpting and painting the bird and embellishing to finish.

I am an artist/educator who draws her knowledge from a lifelong and mixed background of artistic practices. My training is clothing design, dance teaching and makeup artistry. I have spent many hours learning and practicing my art so that I can be a better teacher and love the journey of exploration that I am on.
Initially I was working as a textile artist before moving into air dry clay, mixed media works and painting.
In 2010 we moved to Western Australia, where I teach both at home and around the State. I also travel to teach and sell my art across Australia as well as having had 6 tours to date teaching around the USA…though Covid has of course made changes to my work schedule. My patterns and classes have been available online for many years.
Over the years my artwork has also been published in several magazines and an art book.
