“Rhapsody in Blue” Costuming (Including Wings) -- Deb Wood (Session 4)
Start Date: April 20, 2017
Class: Rhapsody In Blue
Instructor: Deb Wood
Cost: $50.00 for 4 lesson
All Skill Levels
Once Lesson One opens, it remains available until this classroom this series closes
In this fourth and final session for this sculpting series, Rhapsody gets her “dress”.
Covered in this class are several new techniques, never shown before. Do you ever wonder how people get all the layers of fabric to lay down in the costume and not look bulky? Deb will show you how it’s done.
You will also learn to make a bustier that looks like real embossed leather, complete with eyelet laces in back. Her gladiator style sandals are a great touch- Deb will show a technique to make the fit perfect for her posed feet. Also learn how to custom dye silks and papers to accent the costuming perfectly.
Making a pair of dynamic fairy wings will be included in this lesson, showing how to add glimmer to the wings with edges of glitter. Her whole Renaissance look is topped off with a tiny tiara, also shown in these lessons.
- Lesson 1: Choosing the fabrics that are right for your sculpture. Tips on selecting fabrics that are best adapted to costuming. Preparing the sculpted figure for costuming- placing on delicate panties for a tasteful touch.
- Lesson 2: Dyeing silks and mulberry papers using alcohol inks. Cutting pattern pieces and searing the edges in one step. Attaching her skirting. Attaching butterfly sleeves.
- Lesson 3: Designing and fitting her Bustier. This includes adding eyelets if you wish, for a very realistic look.
- Lesson 4: Finishing touches. Making Gladiator style sandals with fitted soles. Making her iridescent wings.
Bonus: Designing a tiny tiara from brass filigree
(Directions for making her staff are not included but Deb will give you the basic steps if you would like to make something similar.)
This is a ‘stand alone’ course and you won’t need to have taken the other classes to participate in this class; you will be able to adapt these costuming techniques to other figurative artwork you do.
